Garage Makeover part two

Apparently you can paint over the Cempolay Ultra in a few days but I wanted to make sure it was fully stable before applying the paint.
Two part expory from Floor Paint Express (http://www.floorpaintexpress.co.uk/ which is a trading arm of Watco). Mix the resin and hardener to the correct ratios and then use brush and roller.
First coat on...

Two coats needed as the first dries a bit patchy where it soaks into the Cempolay but I was advised this is ok. The second coat looks amazing. Although it is quite alot brighter than I was anticipating at least dropped nuts and washers will show up easily.

Engine arrival

Having said I would not be getting an engine until next year I seem to have bought an engine!!!

And this is it... a 2012 L99 Camaro engine with a 6L80E Automatic transmission.
The L99 is an LS3 (6.2 litre GM gen IV V8) with variable valve timing (vvt) and displacement on demand (dod). The vvt gives a much flatter torque response because the cam shaft has a +-20 degree timing advance / retard. So as opposed to fitting a different cam to get better high end torque and power but sacrificing low rpm drivability - lumpy idles etc the idea is to make a more balanced engine depending on the demands put on it. In addition to this the DOD controlled by the engine computer (ECM) shuts off the fuel and valve train to 4 cylinders when certain condions are met. This puts the engine into 4 cylinder mode with associated fuel economy and emissions savings. To my mind these things are amazing to have in a V8 muscle car engine and I want to take advantage on them.
On top of the the 6L80E is a very modern 6 speed auto box with a number of clever features too. It will allow electronic paddle shifting from a steering wheel and/or tap up /down from an auto gearstick. It has engine breaking, change down throttle 'blipping' (got to be in a v8), two overdrive gears etc.
There is alot of complexity in this set up compared to an old small block Chevy or Ford with a 5 speed manual but I like this technology and am determined to make it work... there might be many pitfalls along the way like 'will it fit in the GD chassis?' and 'how on earth do I begin to decipher the spaghetti like engine loom that comes with this'... and more

Garage makeover time

Whilst waiting for chassis build slot and whilst the large rusty doorstop otherwise known as the differential are out of the building (the diff is with Russell Derbyshire of Cobra Replica Club fame to be reconditioned) my plan was always to sort the garage out to be a warmer cleaner place to build a car. The warmth is mainly sorted with the roof space being boxed in with plasterboard and insulated, the doors have foil bubblewrap stuff on. Just the gaps around the doors - where all the spiders come and go - are left plus painting the walls. So this is the 'before' shot.

So to the floor. I've chosen to use self levelling concrete followed by two coats of epoxy paint. The self levelling will help with dragging engines etc across the floor. I've chosen Cempolay Ultra - non latex appropriate for domestic garage use. Made by bostik.

First the floor has to be clean, free of dust and grease. Then it's recommended to do a pva 'bonding layer' (1:4 water) to help lock in the concrete dust and provide a consistent key for the Cempolay to bond to.

Am doing this in two stages as I can't completely empty garage and do in one go.

Once the PVA is dry - 24hours or so, then it's time to self level.

Mix up as per instructions. Pour on and spread with a steel plaster float to desired thickness obeying all information about timings. This stuff starts setting in 20 minutes so you can't hang about.

This is it laid after 30 minutes.

And then below is the next day.
