Engine arrival

Having said I would not be getting an engine until next year I seem to have bought an engine!!!

And this is it... a 2012 L99 Camaro engine with a 6L80E Automatic transmission.
The L99 is an LS3 (6.2 litre GM gen IV V8) with variable valve timing (vvt) and displacement on demand (dod). The vvt gives a much flatter torque response because the cam shaft has a +-20 degree timing advance / retard. So as opposed to fitting a different cam to get better high end torque and power but sacrificing low rpm drivability - lumpy idles etc the idea is to make a more balanced engine depending on the demands put on it. In addition to this the DOD controlled by the engine computer (ECM) shuts off the fuel and valve train to 4 cylinders when certain condions are met. This puts the engine into 4 cylinder mode with associated fuel economy and emissions savings. To my mind these things are amazing to have in a V8 muscle car engine and I want to take advantage on them.
On top of the the 6L80E is a very modern 6 speed auto box with a number of clever features too. It will allow electronic paddle shifting from a steering wheel and/or tap up /down from an auto gearstick. It has engine breaking, change down throttle 'blipping' (got to be in a v8), two overdrive gears etc.
There is alot of complexity in this set up compared to an old small block Chevy or Ford with a 5 speed manual but I like this technology and am determined to make it work... there might be many pitfalls along the way like 'will it fit in the GD chassis?' and 'how on earth do I begin to decipher the spaghetti like engine loom that comes with this'... and more
